Thank you for explaining the difference between the book and movie Lolita.

Today I was talking with my almost 18-year-old (very critical) stepson about favourite movies and I have no idea why but I said Lolita (among others). He was absolutely shocked. He asked if I read the book and no I haven't, hence why I appreciate your article.

Given how strongly he feels about pedophiles and rightly so, I must doubt that HE himself has read the book. I'm sure he's heard about it, but I strongly doubt he's actually watched the movie or read the book.

I tried to explain to him that given the sexual abuse I endured as a little girl, the character and the story helped me somehow at the time, since in my time no one would ever speak of sexual abuse and I didn't dare tell anyone either.

I could even relate to Lolita in the movie, the little seductress, and I also now know where all went wrong in my childhood that I could relate to such a character and at times behave a bit like a Lolita.

But I can tell you that at the same time I also felt all wrong and I didn't know why back then.

I've managed to work through my issues and the past horror. Perhaps in part thanks to sources like such stories that bring certain tabu subjects to light.
