Question. What do you guys in the US think and feel about the fact that Trump can run for president in four years again?
I feel that if the Democrats don't find a way to stop that from happening, either with an additional new amendment or the like, then one must ask himself, are the Democrats here to affect real change or are they just playing into the hands of the likes like Trump after all? Because nothing makes sense to me.
And we all know that if Trump wins next time, with his own party, he will take most of the Republican votes - and for the first time in...history(?) the Republicans might disappear from the political landscape. I might be perceiving this all wrong. I hope I'm not talking complete BS.
But in short - I'm scared as long as someone like Trump is running loose and has half of the American population on his side - and he is not afraid to incite that group to go with arms against the other half.
One has to think about this. What would stop him from inciting his devoted fans (because that's what they are) to become even worse in four years?
People who stormed the Capitol got off really easily because we all know that if that was a group of black or a group of simply non-white people, the police and guard would have shot half of them on the spot and never let them storm anything...
The problem is, what is being done in the States, has huge repercussions across the world. The UK is mildly put fucked and will stay fucked now after Trump's influence. The US might have gotten rid of him for now, but we are stuck with our 'Trumpism' over here.
And as long as there is any hope for Trump regaining power again, our right wing politicians will keep on destroying our lives...
Unless a miracle happens and people finally wake up and exercise their power (in hopefully a peaceful way of course). But everyone seems subdued...still.
Stacey, I love your hopeful article but if I've learned anything in my past 44 years, having lived in three different countries across Europe, is that one can never relax just because the Left has gained a momentary victory.
This is going beyond mere politics of one country or other countries. What's happening now in politics, will determine how our future will be run with the scary technology that we have developed, mainly by white old men who are feeding the AI with very one-sided information.
Information which everyone wants to get their grabby hands on and control the rest of us as it seems.
Humanity is not ready for the leap of technology that we have as it is. We are still thinking far too much with our lizard brains, with fear and greed. And then add to this the right-wing politics across the world - and you have a scenario before you which you could find in many 'futuristic' movies we love so much. But none of these movies is ever hopeful ;)
