Observing my pot-smoking friends, there was only one problem I had with it.

When they smoked weed because they were stressed, to me it looked like avoiding life and they developed a lower tolerance for stress which would become a real issue when they had the next job where they couldn't smoke all day.

I am open to the positive medicinal effects of weed, I really am. And if you smoke a joint a day when you're in a good mood, I don't see the harm.

Memory loss? I had problem memories myself lately (I'm 44) and I don't smoke nor drink. I started to get annoyed by it. I would go into the kitchen and couldn't for the love of me remember why I went there. To get what? It kept happening.

But because I always struggle with my weight, I read a lot on food etc... Not diets, just health and how we need certain bacteria and so on.

One of the things which can hugely impare our memory or brain function is what we eat. And given that we all eat crap and I was overdoing it with stupid crisps and chocolate since last winter because things were just too depressing, it kills the good bacteria we need. And those bacteria are aparently a network of their own, helping our network function at its best.

No one ever talks about it or far too little. We hear about gut bacteria and think it's just for a better digestion. Jee, it's so much more it seems.

So I gave it a go. I stopped eating crap and went back to my salads and veggies and some fruit. It helped really quickly. I refocused.

Also one other thing which I suspect is making me forget - media. It makes my brain lazy simply because I'm not using it the way I used to. I even struggle to memorise my husband's phone number. Simply not used to using my brain any longer...

That's the problem with studies. They focus only on that one aspect, ignoring all others. What if the truth was that while we are eating so badly and reducing our memory simply with bad food and use of media, weed is possibly countering the onset of Alzheimers in the meanwhile? Who knows? :)

Let's have more studies and really find out.

But in all fairness, I've never seen anyone having issues because they smoked a joint or two a day. I've seen issues when they smoked joints as if they were cigarettes, ten to twenty a day... Yes, that becomes an issue then. Not so much for their health itself as far as I could tell, but as I said, just not able to deal with normal life any longer and becoming assholes to their own friends, LOL.
